Oliver Spinks, one of our top legal assistants, works with our Vancouver immigration lawyers.  Oliver has first-hand knowledge of the IEC Visa application and Permanent Residency application and in today’s article explains how to enter the application pool and obtain an IEC Visa/ Young Professional Visa.

On December 9, 2019, The 2020 IEC International Experience Class Young Professional Visa pool has officially opened.  Mr. Spinks has created a helpful checklist and guide to help you navigate the IEC Visa application process and to enter the application pool.

To become an eligible candidate for the Canadian IEC International Experience Class Young Professional Visa requires the following steps:

  1. Complete Come to Canada’s questionnaires which will determine your eligibility.
  2. If you are eligible, you will receive a ‘Personal Reference Code’ Make sure to keep this number safe!
  3. You must then register for a ‘MyCIC’ account and enter your personal reference code as above.
  4. For the next stage, you will be required to complete a few online based application forms on the CIC (Canadian Immigration and Citizenship) application page.
  5. Once you have completed the online application forms and your general information, you will be invited to submit to the pool. You will then receive a message to your MyCIC account confirming your submission.

How does the IEC Visa/ Young Professional Visa Pool Work?

The “Pool” works by essentially pulling your name out of a hat randomly. Once your name is selected, you are then allowed to proceed with your application. There is a limit on how many Working Holiday Visa are allocated each year to specific countries. Candidates are invited at random to apply. Please note that submitting an IEC profile and entering the pool does not guarantee that an Invitation to Apply for an IEC International Experience Class Young Professional Visa will be issued to you.

What To Do When You Receive an Invitation to Apply

If you are fortunate enough to receive an Invitation to Apply for the IEC International Experience Young Professional Immigration class, you have 10 days to decide whether you would like to proceed with your application. Our Vancouver immigration lawyers know that if you accept, you have only 20 days to complete your application online.

Your application requires a variety of documents including:

  1. Your CV;
  2. Proof of Funds;
  3. Passport (including all stamped pages);
  4. Medical Exam (if you are applying from select countries);
  5. Digital Photo;
  6. Family Information;
  7. Job references;
  8. Travel Insurance (for 2 years);
  9. You may in some circumstances need to provide your biometric to a visa application centre to fulfill CIC’s criteria.

What Are The Fees For An IEC International Experience Class Young Professional Visa?

You must pay the IEC participation fee. For the 2020 season, the participation fee is CDN $153. You must also pay an open work permit holder fee of CDN $100.

For Young Professional visa applicants, you don’t have to pay any additional fees, but your employer must pay a CDN $230 employer compliance fee and submit your offer of employment to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Your employer must complete this step before you submit your work permit application.

I Have Received My POE (Point of Entry) Letter, What Should I Do?

Congratulations! As you have now received your POE letter for your successful IEC International Experience Young Professional Immigration application, you can not start planning your new adventure in Canada!

Once at the Canadian Border you will head to immigration where they will process the information along with your POE letter and provide you with your Visa.

You can travel, explore or work in Canada, for a maximum of 2 years. After this, most candidates then move on to apply for Permeant Residence.

TOP TIP: Remember officials at the border will only grant you the length that is on your travel insurance document. If you only get travel insurance for a month, they will only grant you a visa for 1 month!
