"My approach involves extensive preparation and an understanding of my clients’ goals. I then formulate a commonsensical and reasonable strategy to adversity. The devil is always in the details."

Peter Graburn has deep family roots in law, as he chose a career path into law after his father. Justice Lloyd Graburn was one of the youngest judges in Ontario Supreme Court who is known as the judge who ordered rock guitarist Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones to give a concert for the blind. It was Peter who, at a young age, suggested a way for his father to continue his practice of alternative sentencing that would be helpful for the community. So, it is Peter who is Keith Richards’ true ‘blind angel’, saving him from a much harsher sentence.

Peter Graburn is described by his clients as pleasant, practical and punctual. He wants people to know, “I am methodical, down to earth and I take a very pragmatic approach to family law. My approach to each case involves extensive preparation and understanding of my clients’ goals and desires regarding the outcome by formulating a commonsensical and reasonable strategy to adversity. The devil is always in the details.”

Peter is naturally adventurous and often contemplates life and legal strategies while roaring down the ski hills of Alberta, boating on the beautiful lakes of Montana and eastern British Columbia, or canoeing along the serene river near his home in Calgary AB. These outdoor activities in remote and sometimes severe surroundings have provided Peter with a perspective and calm that he brings to his law practice.

Peter spent years in aboriginal law and wanted to get back into working with people one on one and being able to utilize his skills in the courtroom. Disagreeable situations in or out of court do not phase Peter. He can often be heard to say, “Well, I don’t like that very much. What are we going to do about it?” He can handle the most contentious and stressful situation with a strategic resolve that is second to none.

Peter Graburn has a deep regard for his own family and brings a commitment to his work as a family lawyer to ensure all families get clarity and legal advice that is beneficial to all.

Peter practices family law with a focus on complex family financial disputes and high conflict child parenting issues. With a focus on both litigation and uncontested out of court collaborative divorce experience, Peter can guide clients through the best process for each individual family.
